Ben Murphy, the British competitor flies next... he topped the timesheet in FP3 so let's see if he can beat Astles now in Qualifying...
-
-
-
He's flying well but he's off the pace too! First and second splits are red and Astles is looking good...
-
The former Red Arrows leader wants to end the season with a podium, even though he is out of the running for the title so he needs to push harder
-
-
And it's still red at the last split time, but he moves into 2nd place with a 1:18.477, just +0.418 behind Astles
-
What is the best "challengers" time so far ?
-
Poland's Luke Czepiela will fly now, followed by Kevin Coleman of the USA
-
-
Saturday schedule (local times):
1500 Challenger Class Qualifying
1600 Master Class Qualifying
1800 Press Conference -
Two pilots left to fly in Challenger Class Qualifying...
-
Having accumulated race results including a win, one second and two thirds so far in 2017, Czepiela holds 30 points and is looking for his first season finish in the top three. An Indy win by itself won't guarantee him the cup, but with the right results from Bergér and Ryfa, Czepiela can still take home the trophy if he finishes first or second
-
-
And that's green at the first split time for the Polish pilot!
-
-
But he slows off the pace by the second split time and it moves into the red... and again... looks like only Coleman can challenge Astles today!
-
It's a 1:18.378 for Czepiela, + 0.319 behind Astles to move him into 2nd place, with Murphy now in 3rd
-
Incredible! No penalties since Challenger17 made a mistake!
-
-
Last Challenger pilot to take to the skies at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in this Qualifying session is home hero Kevin Coleman...
-
It's a very slow and cautious start for Coleman at 119.49kts... he will have trouble making up for that in the track
-
And he's red at the first split time and off the pace, but it's close!
-
-
Second split shows he's lost more time and by the third, it'll be impossible to catch Astles
-
Coleman will have to be satisfied with 1:20.402 and a 5th place result in Qualifying
-
CHALLENGER CLASS QUALIFYING QUICK RESULTS:
ASTLES
CZEPIELA
MURPHY
BERGER
COLEMAN
RYFA -
-
That's a great result for Astles and will leave her full of confidence for tomorrow's race, while Bergér and Ryfa will be left scratching their heads and trying to work out how to claw it back
-
MASTER CLASS QUALIFYING STARTS AT 1600 LOCAL TIME AND WILL BE BROADCAST LIVE ON HERE!
